The Bravus Rockhampton River Festival is Central Queensland's largest arts festival featuring local artist installations, immersive experiences, workshops and artist interactions. Anime Cinema  

Anime movies are some of the most breathtaking spectacles in film. Enjoy CapriCon's absolute favourite anime films for free in the Walter Reid Cultural Centre Auditorium. Check the program for times. Seating is limited.

Your Name (PG) | Two strangers find themselves linked in a bizarre way. When a connection forms, will distance be the only thing to keep them apart?

Spirited Away (PG) | During her family's move to the suburbs, a sullen 10-year-old girl wanders into a world ruled by gods, witches, and spirits, and where humans are changed into beasts.

A Silent Voice (PG) | A young man is ostracized by his classmates after he bullies a deaf girl to the point where she moves away. Years later, he sets off on a path for redemption.

Wolf Children (PG) | After her werewolf lover unexpectedly dies in an accident while hunting for food for their children, a young woman must find ways to raise the werewolf son and daughter that she had with him while keeping their trait hidden from society.

Howl's Moving Castle (PG) | When an unconfident young woman is cursed with an old body by a spiteful witch, her only chance of breaking the spell lies with a self-indulgent yet insecure young wizard and his companions in his legged, walking castle.

Bearded Bingo 

A fabulous new take on a beloved ball-based classic. Brisbane’s notorious boylesque stars briefs are back to satisfy your thinly-veiled gambling addiction with a high-key, low-stakes drag circus bingo extravaganza! 

Join your illustrations host and drag queens for an action-packed variety show that’s a cross between your nan’s bingo hall, a drag do at your local gay bar, and a circus night under the biggest top in town.

It’s 5 o’clock somequeer honey! Grab your buddies, down a few chardies, and have your bingo blotter at the ready if you want a shot at the hilariously miscellaneous prize table! It’s a day of kind-hearted, PG-ish entertainment guaranteed to leave you feeling a little light in your loafers.

CapriCon Cosplay Competition - Sponsored by Lumin's workshop  

Rockhampton’s favourite pop culture convention CapriCon is making a guest appearance at the Bravus Rockhampton River Festival.

Not only will festival attendees be able to enjoy food, arts and music they will also be delighted by CapriCon’s signature cosplay competition on main stage and a visit to some of the unique vendors located in Pop Culture Alley behind Customs House.

The CapriCon Cosplay Competition hosted by Black Apple Creative will open the festival main stage on Sunday 24 October at 10am and showcase standout costumes from professional and amateur cosplayers aged 5 years and up.

With prizes from major cosplay supplier Lumin’s Workshop up for grabs, the titles of Top Cosplayer, Top Crafter and Top Team will be a hotly contested.

Whether you’re officially competing or just interested in taking a look, it will be a great family fun event with marvellous characters and superheroes for the young and young at heart. For details on how to enter see below.

ERTH'S Dinosaur Zoo         

Meet an amazing menagerie of dinosaurs that once roamed free across Australia. Learn how to feed and interact with Erth’s dinosaurs in a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Children can watch wide-eyed from a safe distance or dare to get right up close to these prehistoric creatures.

Fireworks - Sponsored by mr real estate           

Crowds will be treated to fireworks displays each night of the festival at family friendly timeslots of 7.45pm on Friday and Saturday and 7pm on Sunday.

Hot August Night performed by The Good Band

Turn up the heat with Neil Diamond’s iconic Hot August Night played by The Good Band in this outdoor concert special.

The year is 1972 and Neil Diamond gave us hit after hit on Hot August Night with tracks such as; Cherry Cherry, Sweet Caroline, Kentucky Woman and Cracklin’ Rosie giving us one of the best selling albums of all time that went 10x platinum here in Australia. Move forward to 2021, and The Good Band will be bringing their flavour to these legendary tracks in Saturday night party not to be missed.

The Good Band is made up of members from Queensland’s very own chart toppers George and local party starters The Cheap Fakes featuring; Hayden Andrews, Benjamin Hack, Geoff Green, Ben Mackay, and Liam Kirk.

Pop Culture Alley      

Discover Pop Culture Alley in Quay Lane (behind Customs House) where all your favourite vendors from CapriCon will be trading on SUNDAY 24 October, 10am - 5pm. Check the Market Stalls list in the app for all businesses trading in Pop Culture Alley.

REVIVA IBIS

One person's trash is another person's treasure. Check out the treasure trove that Reviva Ibis has on show - everything from the kitchen sink to the front door. From nifty bits to nick-nacks, boats to books, lawnmowers to lawn seeds. Meet the team from the Resource Recovery Centre. 

RIVER FISH WORKSHOPS - SPONSORED BY FITZROY PARTNERSHIPS AND RIVER HEALTH         

Drop in and join puppeteers from Erth’s Dinosaur Zoo to create a school of life-size barramundi puppets. Using recycled materials, get in and get crafty as we construct these giant river fish together. Help us recycle and bring along a washed 2L milk bottle from home to contribute. The delightful illuminated River Fish will parade along the river each night during the Festival (see program times for details).

Shake a leg live 

Shake A Leg Live is a series of dance classes made for everyone. Adapted from Karul's online series where it doesn't matter where you are in the world or in your house, give these classes a go.  Hosted, choreographed and music by Thomas E.S. Kelly, Karul's Co-Artistic Director, find yourself dancing and moving for all ages and having fun hip hopping, clap stomping and shake a legging. 

Smile with Mother Nature        

Walk beneath 100 coloured umbrellas and use this art installation as this year's tongue in cheek 'wet weather plan'!

UNITY PROJECT

Take part in our unique UNITY project! Share your background by choosing identifiers that apply to you, join them with a piece of yarn and help create an inspiring piece of public art that unifies us all. 

WAKA Gulbugarngu Tunuba | All the tribe coming to the Big River (Fitzroy River)  

A meeting space nurtured by Darumbal Enterprise. 

Gather with Traditional Custodians the Darumbal people on the banks of Tunuba for a program of ceremony, workshops, listening, learning, dancing and yarning. 

Come with respect, ready to engage, dance and be enriched by the oldest living culture on earth. 

"Culture is the heart of our identity and without it we would be lost" Darumbal Enterprise 

Waka Gulbugarngu Tunuba program is for all ages.

WALTER REID CULTURAL CENTRE EXHIBITION AND OPEN DAY TOURS       

Enjoy the Exhibition in the Gallery from 5pm-7pm Friday night, 10am-5pm on Saturday and 10am-5pm on Sunday or pop into the Walter Reid on Saturday for their open day including guided tours of the basement, historical features and visits to the many working groups within the Centre. Studios are also open for viewing at various times throughout the festival with drop in activities for a creative mind.

Wheel of Oz

Take in the views of the festival and the beautiful Fitzroy River (Tunuba) on the Wheel of Oz Ferris Wheel. At an elegant 26 metres tall, take a ride in one of the eighteen open air gondolas and be awe inspired by the 360˚ panoramic views.

You Should be Dancing by Everybody Now!         

You Should Be Dancing is a shiny, glittery, mega mix of the ultimate dancing moves, bought to you by performance collective Everybody NOW! A non-stop exhilarating party through decades of dance, featuring your towns dancing stars – and there are hundreds of them!

Throw on some sparkles and your best threads and get ready to storm the floor in your kicks and heels.

You Should Be Dancing will leave you smiling from ear to ear as you discover your inner dancing star!

Totally participatory, inclusive for all ages and abilities, the show opens with a short ‘learn the moves’ class following by 90mins of dancing.

This is your invitation to party, feel the rhythm, embrace the romance and dance, dance, dance.
