In addition to Quay Street and our wonderful Riverfront precinct, Rockhampton Regional Council is striving to bring thousands of eager customers into East Street as part of Rockhampton River Festival’s Saturday and Sunday programming.

Mayor Tony Williams said Council understands the importance of supporting our established local businesses in East Street by bringing the Festival to them and he is encouraging residents to support a local business over the River Festival weekend.

“After consultation with East Street businesses earlier this year Council decided that changing this year’s event footprint would not only take advantage of our beautiful tree lined East Street but will also draw massive festival crowds to our loyal CBD traders, some of which have partnered with us to increase their offering and participation during the event,” Mayor Williams said.

“River Festival will bring artisan market vendors, a community stage, roving artists and performers plus free face painting and workshops to East Street on Saturday and Sunday.”

Advance Rockhampton Executive Manager Mr Greg Bowden said it’s important for our community to explore the whole CBD as part of River Festival this year.

“We encourage everyone to support out East Street traders and restaurants as part of the event while also exploring our local artisan markets, musicians, live muralist and local performance artists during the Saturday and Sunday programming,” Mr Bowden said.

“With the inclusion of the Rockhampton Museum of Art and the Art Link between Quay Lane and East Street we will see increased connectivity with the river and we encourage locals to participate in the entire precinct. Our event activities will not only be entertaining for all visitors but they will support our CBD economy to continue to grow. Grab a kebab or a coffee, get a haircut, buy that new dress or a diamond ring whatever it is just support a local business whilst being entertained by local arts and musical talents.”

Rockhampton River Festival held 7-9 October, will stretch along Quay Street from Fitzroy to William Streets and will this year flow into East Street to support our CBD traders. Festival goers are encouraged to explore the brand-new Art Link from the Rockhampton Museum of Art through Quay Lane and onto East Street for a hive of live music and markets on Saturday and Sunday.
