Elise Higginson

Elise Higginson is a contemporary abstract artist who lives and works in Rockhampton, Queensland. Her work is expressionistic, symbolic and interpretive and has won numerous awards over the past 25+ years.

Elise draws inspiration from diverse sources and translates her internal and external world with bold and dynamic artwork evoking vivid childlike freedom and dream like states in the viewer. Her paintings are a unique blend of bright colours, surprising mediums and experimental techniques. Although bound by an abstract approach, each artwork is unique, inviting the observer to engage, reflect and respond in their own way.

Regarding inspiration she says:

“ It’s quite subconscious. I am often inspired by nature, music, or sensory things like textures or fragrances. Art communicates, in the same way that a dance piece or a song expresses. It helps my motivation and gives me a purpose too. Whether I’m down or happy I can express through my art.”

Elise’s creative talents were recognised early, receiving numerous awards in Eisteddfods and other local art competitions throughout her school years. After high school she studied the practical elements of Cert 3 in Visual Arts at TAFE.

Her first professional solo exhibition was at Perc Tucker Regional Gallery at 19yrs. Elise regularly participates in annual members' exhibitions at various galleries. She has established her own creative business "Dynamic Abstract Arts,” and has exhibited and sold her work at public exhibitions, galleries and local businesses. Elise was awarded the "People's Choice" award in 2011 for QRAA Flying Arts and was selected for the touring exhibition, the following two years.

Elise is passionate about continuing to provide art workshops to her community supporting at-risk youth and people with disabilities/sensory issues as she wants to give the youth of her community what she did not have as a young woman.
