Rockhampton, get ready for a profound and uplifting musical experience as we welcome home a true visionary. On Sunday, 30th July, the Rockhampton River Festival proudly presents BIRDZ, a proud Butchulla man and a force to be reckoned with in the world of hard-hitting Hip Hop. With a unique brand of music that embodies messages of hope and self-determination, BIRDZ will undoubtedly inspire and captivate audiences like never before.

I was born in Rockhampton, and still have family in the area, so I'm really looking forward to performing at River Festival. It'll be my first-ever show in Rocky, and I can't wait to bring what I do back to where it all started.

The unapologetic rapper’s debut album Train Of Thought (2017) was received with critical acclaim and deservedly won the Australian Independent Record Label Associations – Best Independent Hip Hop Album, was shortlisted for the Australian Music Prize, Nominated for Music Victoria’s Best Hip Hop Album and was loved by community radio and digital service providers nationally.

In 2019, Birdz released his critically acclaimed project, Place Of Dreams, which featured the likes of Ecca Vandal and Moju, and earned the rising songwriter a nomination for the Corner Hotel Artist Of The Year award, a national tour in support of renowned rapper, Seth Sentry, high rotation on triple j, and a publishing deal with Bad Apples / SonyATV that has since secured songwriting placements in film and TV.

Last year, Birdz released his widely lauded single, Bagi-La-M Bargan feat. Fred Leone, which was voted as #30 on triple j’s Hottest 100. The track was instantly added to triple j and supported across various community radio stations such as FBi Radio, Syn FM, Radio Adelaide, Triple R, Koori Radio, PBS Radio and Double J. Bagi-La-M Bargan scored placement on Spotify’s Front Left, A1, Fresh Finds: Hip Hop, Blak Australia, Deadly Beats and The Local List as well as Apple Music’s Vibe, Alt Rap and New Fire playlists.

Continuing to be a strong favourite on all streaming platforms, the song has now surpassed a million streams on Spotify alone. 2021 has already seen BIRDZ; Collab with Missy Higgins for a very special performance on ABC’s the Set, appear as a featured artist on the RAP IT UP documentary series that is being hosted by triple j and abc i-view, be the face of a nation-wide ‘Strong Mob’ health campaign, and release his ‘Fly’ single featuring Ngaiire which was instantly added to high rotation on triple j.
