The River Kids Precinct line-up of FREE stage shows, playspaces and workshops guarantees an affordable family weekend filled with endless fun and creativity.
WHAT’S IN THE RIVER KIDS’ PRECINCT?
LARRIKIN PUPPETS
- Friday 6pm
- Saturday 1pm & 4pm
- Sunday 12.30pm & 2.30pm
Larrikin Puppets will captivate young audiences with their colourful and exciting puppet shows allowing children to join in the fun, featuring zany characters, catchy songs, and plenty of opportunities to talk, dance, sing, and play along. Larrikin Puppets' performances not only entertain but also nurture child development and celebrate the values of fun, kindness, and diversity.
THE VEGETABLE PLOT

Joining the festivities is the beloved Aussie kids’ band, The Vegetable Plot. These talented musicians sprouted onto the scene in 2014 and have since become a favourite among children and adults alike. As part of the ABC Kids music family, this internationally acclaimed band is known for their earthy, organic music that both parents and kids can enjoy. Their live show promises a bumper crop of tasty grooves, dances, jokes, and veggie bangers that will plant seeds of inspiration in the hearts of the audience for years to come.
HELLY HOOPS
- Friday (LED Hula Hoop Playspace) 6.30pm & 8pm
- Saturday & Sunday (Mixed Circus Play) 2pm, (Hula Hoop Playspace) 4.15pm
Helly Hoops, a powerhouse entertainer, will bring her unique hilarity and skill to the River Kids Precinct. With her professional clown and hula hoop performances, Helen is sure to leave children in awe. From giant bubble workshops to mixed circus play, and LED hula hoop playspaces, Helly Hoops will provide endless excitement and laughter.
WORKSHOPS
Create a Pot Plant Person Workshop
- Saturday 12pm & 5pm
- Sunday 11.30am & 1.30pm
Maggie Moo Music Rockhampton invites you to create your own Pot Plant Person. This free workshop allows children to unleash their creativity as they decorate their own terracotta pots and assemble as a "person". As an added bonus, the team will have small flowers to plant in their masterpiece that they can proudly take home and watch grow.
These workshops are FREE and all materials are supplied. Parental supervision required.
Rock Art Workshop
- Saturday 11am & 2pm
- Sunday 10.30am & 12.30pm
Calling all little Picassos! Join us at River Festival's free Kids Rock Art Workshop where rocks transform into magical masterpieces. Let your creativity run wild as you design adorable creatures and vibrant patterns.
This sustainable art workshop demonstrates how you can transform a natural garden find into a unique and artistic creation. Hide your completed rocks for others to discover or take them home as treasured keepsakes.

Helly Hoops Bubble Workshops
- Saturday & Sunday 1pm & 3.15pm
Let your imagination soar as you learn the secrets to creating colossal bubbles that will leave everyone awestruck. Get ready for laughter, amazement, and a whole lot of bubbly fun as we dive into the magical world of bubble artistry!
‘Magic Garden’ Songwriting Workshop
Join award-winning children’s band The Vegetable Plot for a journey into the magic garden of the human imagination. Learn about vocal warm-ups and sweet harmonies from Ru Barb, feast on songwriting secrets from Aspara Gus, get groovy with Sir Paul McCarrotney, and then use what you’ve learnt to help the band write something fresh and new. Built around some of The Vegetable Plot’s most popular songs like “Avocado”, “Melon Collie” and “The Pajamazon Jungle” this workshop is all about exploring creativity and planting seeds of musical inspiration that will blossom for years to come.
